Conference «University Teaching as a Scholarship?»
An international conference entitled “University Teaching as Scholarship?” will take place on January 24th – 26th, 2011 in the Dorpat Conference Centre, Tartu. The conference welcomes the submission of abstracts.
Conference theme
The quality of higher education is receiving a vast amount of attention in today’s Europe, and at the same time an important discussion is revolving around meaningful teaching and learning. The teaching process has become more relevant, and in order to achieve high quality higher education, it is important to integrate research and teaching.
The aim of the conference "University Teaching as a Scholarship?" is to develop the willingness in university teachers to explore, develop and refine their teaching skills. Throughout the conference, topics related to the following two broad themes will be covered:
- the impact of university teachers on major processes in higher education and
- the development of students, higher education institutions, the education sector, and society.
The conference will give participants the opportunity to introduce their research and experiences in university teaching, and acquaint themselves with the work of others. Workshops will be dedicated to innovative, useful, and positive teaching experiences. Teachers from Baltic and Nordic universities and internationally recognized trainers will hold workshops during the pre-conference session.
The conference will explore three questions from the perspectives of research, learning and teaching. The conference presentations will be conducted in one of the following formats - seminar, symposium, workshop, or poster presentation. The duration of presentations will be either 20 minutes or 50 minutes plus a 10 minute discussion period. The duration of workshops will be 90 minutes.

• Jacques Lanarès, Vice Rector of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
• Torgny Roxa, Lund University, Sweden
• Jaanus Harro, University of Tartu, Estonia
• James Groccia, Auburn University, USA.
