Ph.D students earned a prize for popularising science
EMÜ Ph.D students earned the grand prize in one of the categories of a science popularisation contest by Archimedes. The category was 'The Best Original Initiative in Popularising Science and Technology'.
The winning project called "Live Science" is made up 20 active doctoral students organising science-themed workshops in primary and secondary schools and talking to pupils about science in the "human language". The workshops include both theoretical and practical parts, preparation courses are organised for the lecturing students. The head of the "Live Science" project is a Ph.D student in the field of forestry, Kristi Teppo.
The Head of the Assessment Committee, Taivo Raud commented on the EMÜ students' work: "Enthusiastic Ph.D students have managed to creat a wide range (14) of high-school-suitable workshops on different subjects in natural sciences and technology in a very short time and with limited resources."
With the descision of the Minister of Education and Research, the students were awarded with a prize of 2500 euros. Altogether, prizes were awarded in six categories.
