EcolChange summit underlines its attractivity for young researchers

The Estonian Centre of Excellence EcolChange investigates in the field of global change ecology from molecular to biome-level responses at natural and managed ecosystems. Hereby, the annual meeting provides the great chance to meet and discuss current research questions in a cross-discipline environment. In 2019, a team of PhD students from all research groups organised the annual doctoral conference, which took place on November 12th in Voore/Jõgevamaa. It was dedicated but not limited to EcolChange PhD students and junior scientists and, thus, more than 70 participants followed the invitation of the organisers to listen the newest trends and highlights at the research groups. Further, intensive group discussions highlighted the three organised workshops about carbon cycle pathways in future climate scenarios, how to work on the challenge of big data in eco-sciences, and the increasing importance plus several ways of internal and external communication in scientist’s everyday business. Hereby, representing the international EcolChange scope, 20+ nationalities on PhD student and Postdoc level from all other the world gathered, shared knowledge and experiences and found new collaboration partners and ideas in domestic Tartu, following the basic principle: act local but think global. Concluded, the annual doctoral conference 2019 stipulated an enthusiastic contribution in the further development of excellence research in Estonia.
