The election committee of the Estonian University of Life Sciences elected a new rector for the university. For the next five years, university life will be directed by Ülle Jaakma, professor of reproductive biology.

Professors Ülle Jaakma, Paavo Kaimre and Endla Reintam applied for rectorship. Out of 117 members of the rector's election committee, 72 voted for Jaakma and 45 for Kaimre in the second round. In the first round, Jaakma collected 57, Kaimre 38 and Reintam 22 votes.

The new rector hopes for good cooperation with the employees. "I am very grateful that the university showed me such support. Now I am thinking about how to be a rector who cooperates and who takes people's opinions into account, rather than commanding and organizing. I have a good role model in the form of Mait Klaassen," commented Jaakma.

The rector's term of office begins on January 1, 2023 and lasts for five years.
