Estonian University of Life Sciences presents solutions for coping with the effects of climate change at the UN climate conference

The Estonian University of Life Sciences, together with Estonian state institutions, companies and universities, will participate in the UN climate conference COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates at the beginning of December, bringing climate-aware agriculture and biocircular economy solutions into focus in the Estonian pavilion.

The rector of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Ülle Jaakma, commends the Estonian Ministry of Climate`s decision to include scientists in the Estonian delegation, because complex climate problems require knowledge-based solutions. "UN climate conferences influence the implementation of international climate policy worldwide. Our knowledge and experience can contribute to sustainable solutions in all corners of the world," said rector Jaakma.

Aret Vooremäe, head of the delegation of the university, Director of the Institute of Agriculture and Environment said that many of the organizations and institutions participating at UN climate conference could be interested in the scientific results of the Estonian University of Life Sciences on sustainable management of natural resources and green technologies. "We organise five discussions or presentations in the Estonian pavilion within COP28 and in addition our researchers participate in discussions organized by other organizations. Our focus is on climate-aware agriculture and, related to it, soil health, crop production and valorization of by-products of food production. In addition, we will also talk about the valorization of other bio-resources, such as wood, and introduce the success story of the circular economy, how the resources of the old landfill were recycled," Aret Vooremäe opened the plans of the Estonian Univeristy of Life Sciences in more detail.

A seven-member delegation of the Estonian University of Life Sciences will participate in the climate conference on 8-10 December. See the programme of the Estonian University of Life Sciences at the university`s website.
