The Estonian University of Life Sciences (Eesti Maaülikool) has started an ERASMUS+ project in collaboration with 12 partners to help establish sustainability-themed microdegrees at two universities in Mongolia and two in Ukraine.

The project is called Domani and will run from November 1st, 2023, to October 31st, 2027. It is coordinated and led by Kristina Marran, Head of the Open University, and the deputy coordinator is Anton Shkaruba, Senior Researcher at the Department of Environmental Protection and Landscape Management.

As a result of the project, 91 ECTS credits worth of courses will be developed to support the green economy. The main topics of these courses include:

  • Conservation of biodiversity and management of biological resources
  • Pollution prevention, control, and remediation
  • Tools and methods for green planning and management
  • Financial and economic instruments for green development
  • Communication for green development
  • Water quality improvement and protection

The project will contribute to the development of the green economy in the participating universities and propose changes to national regulations in Mongolia and Ukraine to support the introduction of microdegreees. These microdegrees will create better and more flexible learning opportunities in both countries and assist in the post-war recovery of Ukraine's labor market and environment.

The Domani project supports key EU priorities such as the Green Deal, digital transformation, distance learning, and sustainable economic growth. It also encourages job creation through entrepreneurship-oriented skills development.
