Arriving in Estonia

Estonian University of Life Sciences is located in Tartu, in Southern Estonia approximately 186 km from the capital, Tallinn. Tartu connects to the world primarily through Tartu airport and Tallinn international airport.

The Tallinn international airport is located on the edge of the city, on the road to Tartu. It will take approximately two hours to drive to Tartu from Tallinn airport.

By plane

There are direct flights or connections to Tallinn from many European cities. Tallinn Airport terminal is only 4 km from the city centre and it provides a wide variety of services.
To the city centre of Tallinn, you may get by bus no. 2 or by tram line no. 4. Bus no. 2 runs every 20 minutes from 7.00 am until 12 midnight between the airport, the city centre and the port. Bus and tram stops are both located at the city side of the passenger terminal. Use the escalator or elevator in the terminal to get to the bus stops quickly and conveniently. There are also taxis in front of the Arrivals Hall. You can also use ride sharing applications such as Uber or our own taxi application Taxify to get the cheapest rides.
You can get to Tartu straight from the airport. A bus to Tartu runs every 30 minutes from 6:35 AM to 11:05 PM. You may see the timetable and purchase tickets here. (Tallinna Lennujaam-Tartu Bussijaam (or Tartu Näitused if you wish to go to our Torn dormitory).

If you arrive later than 11 PM, you can book a spot on the Tallinn airport - Tartu shuttle which will take you straight to wherever you're staying in Tartu. You can book a spot on the shuttle here. The shuttle costs 20 EUR but is still more convenient than spending the night in Tallinn.

By sea

Ferries cross the Gulf of Finland between Tallinn and Helsinki several times a day. Hydrofoils and jet cats also run from late spring to late autumn.
Ferries from Stockholm to Tallinn leave every evening and the trip takes approximately 15 hours. The ferry terminals are located within walking distance of the Old Town.

By bus

The easiest way to reach Tartu is by bus. From the Bus Station, buses go from Tallinn to Tartu approximately every 30 minutes, they depart from the Bus Station and most of the buses stop at the Airport, located quite close to the Bus Station, before leaving Tallinn completely.

The buses go from 5:40 AM until 11 PM, usually from platform 9. You can look for the timetable here. It will take about 2,5 hours to reach Tartu. Buses are comfortable and most offer free WiFi service. It is possible to request a stop near dormitories at bus stop "Tartu näitused".

How to get to the Bus Station in Tallinn

You can get to the Bus Station by taxi or public transportation - bus no.2 stops not too far from the bus terminal (the "Bussijaam" stop) and then goes to the airport. It takes a little more time to get to the bus terminal from Tallinn sea port: either by taxi, tram no.2 (towards Ülemiste) or bus No.2 will take you to Tallinn Bus Station (the "Bussijaam" stop) from the port.

By train

Trains from Tallinn to Tartu leave 8 times a day and it takes between 2-3 hours to get to Tartu, depending on the train. The train station is situated just outside the Tallinn Old Town and sea port, a taxi or tram No.2 (from the sea port) can take you there ("Balti jaam" stop). Trains are modern and comfortable and some have a restaurant and free WiFi access. See the schedule here.

By plane

Tartu Arport is located in Ülenurme, about 9 km from Tartu. It is possible to reach the airport using the road from Tartu to Valga or to Võru. In both directions there are road signs showing how to reach the airport.

The airport’s bus stop is located in front of the terminal. If you arrive late, you need to use taxi.

Getting to the campus

You can take a bus or a taxi to the dormitory or to the Main Building of Eesti Maaülikool. The taxi drivers usually speak some English and all the taxis are equipped with a metre. The university campus is in the outskirts of the city. The distance from the bus station and train station is practically the same. 

From the train station, bus no.3 will take you straight to the campus (from "Raudteejaam" to "Tartu näitused" stop). See the schedule here.

The Main building of the University is just opposite the dormitory and hostel "Torn". International Office can be found on the ground floor of the main building, Room 0043.
