Celebrations in Tartu on 6 October

This year marks the 175th anniversary of veterinary education in Estonia. The Tartu Veterinary School, established in 1848, can be considered the predecessor of today's Estonian University of Life Sciences.

On 6 October, the anniversary celebration will culminate. Everyone will be invited to the Tartu Town Hall Square for the festive opening of the anniversary events that take place from 10 a.m. till noon. We want to introduce the veterinary profession, and give advice how to become a veterinarian.

  • The experienced veterinarians of the Animal Clinic of the Estonian University of Life Sciences will advise you on the health issues of your pets.
  • The Estonian Small Animal Veterinary Association invites children to bring their toy animals to the plush toy animal clinic for health check.
  • Our students of veterinary medicine demonstrate how dogs are trained, and how they are checked for health. Students will also help you to test your relevant knowledge and skills.
  • With trainers by their side, police dogs will demonstrate their obedience, constraint and skills.
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides will be given.
  • Entertainment will be provided by Popsid Brass Band, and Tarbatu Folk Dance Group.

Unveiling of the commemorative plaque takes place on the 6 October at 12 noon at the historical location of the veterinary clinic, the von Bock House.
