An expedition by researchers from the Estonian University of Life Sciences to Greenland and the Faroe Islands has revealed that a parasite causing a dangerous and currently untreatable kidney disease in salmonids is present in significantly colder and more extreme Arctic environments than previously known.

The European Environment Agency (EEA) has entrusted the Estonian University of Life Sciences with leading the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service's international expert group on inland waters. Over the next three years, the group will develop recommendations for advancing Europe's satellite-based monitoring of lakes, rivers and other inland water bodies.

The European Commission has awarded the Euroleague for Life Sciences Universities (ELLS) network approximately €7.2 million in funding for the next two years under the European Universities Initiative. As a member of ELLS, the Estonian University of Life Sciences has also been awarded European University status.
