Bachelor's and Master's studies at the Estonian University of Life Sciences

Please find below general information regarding admission to English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. To find information about Doctoral level studies, please go to: Doctoral Studies.

 

We don’t offer programmes in English at Bachelor level. All programmes at Bachelor level and most of the programmes at Master level are taught in Estonian and you must meet the level B2 requirements for Estonian proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). We don’t offer Estonian language preparatory course.

 

In English we do offer a Bachelor’s and Master’s combined programme „Veterinary Medicinewith 6 years being the official study period.

 

We currently offer following full English-language degree programmes at Master level:

* Landscape Architecture (Master's studies)

* Environmental Governance and Adaptation to Climate Change (joint Master's programme of EMÜ and University of Tartu)

* Planning and Analysis in Multifunctional Forestry (Master's studies)

 

NB! For 2025/2026 academic year admission, the university has decided that a citizen of the Russian Federation or Belarus who cannot apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit for the purposes of studies in compliance with the procedures in force or does not have a valid legal basis to stay in Estonia until the end of the nominal period of study of the study programme cannot apply to the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Based on the former, the DreamApply application system is closed to candidates from the Russian Federation and Belarus. In case the candidate has a valid legal basis for staying in Estonia until the end of the nominal study period of the study programme of interest, please send the proof document to [email protected] to be given instructions on how to apply for the studies.

General application procedure - step by step guide

* To apply for programme "Veterinary Medicine", secondary education or a corresponding qualification is required. 

* To apply for master's programmes

  1. a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited university is required;
  2. an applicant has to have at least 60% of the highest possible CGPA during his/her las studies.

NB! All applicants must also submit a proof of English language proficiency – please see the acceptable tests and exempt categories

 

In addition to the above-mentioned general requirements each programme also has programme-specific admission criteria. Please see the admission requirements of the programme of your interest to learn more.

 

International candidates applying to the Master's or Doctoral level programme at the Estonian University of Life Sciences are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of EUR 100. 

Applicants who have completed previous study level in Estonia or have Estonian or Ukrainian citizenship are exempted from the application fee. 

Candidates applying to the Veterinary Medicine programme at the Estonian University of Life Sciences don't have to pay the application fee.

The payment must be made by the application deadline at the latest. Please note that international bank transfer can take up to two weeks to process, therefore we advise to make the payment at your earliest convenience. An application will be processed only after the application fee has been received by the university.

NB! It is important to properly cite and reference any sources used in your motivation letter. It has to be authentic, otherwise, the university has the right to dismiss your application.

- Upload the scans (not photos) of:

* education documents (final or most recent) and official English translations - please see also our country-specific requirements 
* passport identification page (document needs to be valid during the application process)
* proof of English language proficiency - please see English language requirements 

- Upload or add programme-specific documents (if required)

 

You may only create one account.

 

The application can be edited over a longer period of time and submitted once the application is complete. The application must be submitted by the application deadline at the latest. Submitted applications can not be edited. It is only possible to upload new documents (e.g. graduation certificates).

International candidates applying for Master level programmes (NB! not for bachelor's and master's level integrated programme "Veterinay Medicine") are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of EUR 100. 

Applicants are exempt from the application fee if:
1) they have Estonian citizenship or
2) they have completed the previous study level in Estonia or
3) they have Ukrainian citizenship.

You can submit your application only if you have paid the application fee.


After completing the payment, upload the application fee receipt to the DreamApply system and submit your application.

 

Only submitted applications will be processed after receiving your application fee. Submitted applications will be reviewed by the University and you will receive feedback. If the application is complete, you will receive positive feedback and your application will be forwarded to the Admissions Committee for evaluation (happens after the application deadline). If your application is not complete, you will receive feedback regarding the missing documents (including the deadline for submitting them). You can reopen the submitted application to add the missing documents and resubmit the application.

Applicants will receive all notifications through the DreamApply system and to their e-mail (used for registering in DreamApply) as well. 

Please see the exact description of the admissions test of the Master level programmes on the corresponding programme's website. There are no special preparatory materials available for the test. The questions in the test are in accordance with the level of knowledge that is expected from the candidates who wish to continue their studies in the specific programme.

Once the candidate’s online application and uploaded documents receive a positive pre-evalution, personal instructions about the admissions test will be sent to the candidate. Please note that this test can be taken once. The test must be completed by the deadline, the exact deadline is mentioned in the personal notification. Please follow the instructions sent to you. Before starting the test, make sure that you have established a reliable internet connection. A failed attempt due to poor online connection will not grant a second chance for taking the test. 

If your test score exceeds the threshold, you can continue with the application process and you will soon be invited to the online interview.

 

Don't worry if you are not contacted right away – it might take a while to go through the applications.

After passing the test and the interview or after the motivation letter is graded (in the case of the programme "Veterinary Medicine"), you will be accepted or conditionally accepted. Read through the acceptance/conditional acceptance letter – it includes a list of all the required documents, deadlines, and information about the study place!

All education documents will be assessed by the link opens in new pageENIC/NARIC Centrelink opens in new page after the University has received the hard copies of your education documents. It might take up to a month.

 

Admission notifications will be sent electronically through the DreamApply Estonialink opens in new page application system. All admitted candidates must accept or decline the offer in DreamApply within 7 days.

Candidates are required to mail the printed and signed application form with the rest of the required documents to the University as soon as possible after receiving positive feedback via DreamApply. Admission letter


The official admission letter will be sent to admitted students electronically via DreamApply only after the University has:

* received the applicant's confirmation for the study offer on DreamApply,

* received all the required documents by post,

* received a positive evaluation for education documents from the Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centrelink opens in new page.


For entering Estonia, non-EU citizens need to apply for a long term visa (D type visa) in an Estonian embassy abroad in person. Once they are in Estonia, a temporary residence permit (TRP) application process can be started (if applicable). To apply for a visa you will need the official admission letter that you received via DreamApply (the electronic document will suffice, there is no need for a hard copy). Registration upon arrival (non-EU citizens)


NB! Admitted students who are not citizens of an EU or EEA country or Switzerland need to make sure they obtain the Estonian long-term visa on time in order to be able to participate in the Orientation Week for international students held in the last week of August. They are also required to visit the Department of Academic Affairs in person to complete their arrival registration by September 1, 2025, at the latest. Failure to do so may result in the revocation of their admission decision and visa.

NOTE! The Estonian University of Life Sciences has intake only once a year – for the autumn semester!
