Guidelines for the use of AI text generator in teaching at the Estonian University of Life Sciences
The general guideline is based on the principle that the use of AI text generators is not prohibited.
Honesty, ethical considerations and critical thinking are central to the use of text generators. It is essential to properly reference the use of text generators. Presenting text generated by a text generator as one’s own work is considered academic fraud.
Each lecturer has the right to decide whether and how AI text generators may be used within their course.
Recommended AI applications for students and staff
We recommend that students and staff use Microsoft Copilot for AI applications.
Microsoft Copilot is available at https://copilot.microsoft.comlink opens in new page. To use it, you must log in with your Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMÜ) account. It is important to ensure that the Protected icon is displayed next to your account. This guarantees that data from conversations remains secure and does not leak outside the university.
Copilot offers the most extensive functionality when used in Microsoft Edge, where a Copilot icon appears in the upper right corner. Clicking on the icon opens a sidebar with a chat window, allowing users to ask questions about specific webpages or documents that are open.
The university has an Office A3 license, which does not integrate Copilot into other Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word or Excel.
