Duties and responsibilities

  • Teaching as a responsible academic person and managing teaching at all three levels of higher education. Organising and conducting teaching in BSc and MSc level (in Estonian, Remote sensing of nature MI.0936, Remote sensing of forestry MI.0097), which include topics related to the competencies of the forestry and forest silviculture and ecology curriculum: terrestrial imaginary analysis, geospatial data analysis, geoinformation systems. It is expected to develop a university level micro-degree to increase competence in society and among professionals on the collection and application of remote sensing methodology into forest management planning.
  • Conducting high-level international and national R&D work in the field in forest remote sensing and geospatial data management. Supervising BSc, MSc, PhD and post-doctoral students. Actively applying research projects and publishing peer-reviewed papers in Web of Science indexed database.

To apply, please submit the following documents:

  • an application addressed to the Rector;
  • a curriculum vitae (CV) including a list of publications;
  • documents verifying your qualifications;
  • a link to your Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar profile;
  • candidates applying for a professor position are required to submit a vision and objectives for their planned period in the role (up to 1,500 words) and, if needed, to deliver a venia legendi lecture. 

The Human Resources Department will review the submitted documents for compliance with application requirements. If the candidate’s higher education was obtained abroad, the university will request an assessment from the Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre regarding the candidate’s qualifications relative to the position requirements. All qualifying documents are forwarded for evaluation within two weeks of the application deadline.

Candidates for the positions of professor, senior lecturer, and senior researcher are assessed by an expert committee. The committee will provide the Institute Council with a summary of the candidate’s suitability.

For positions such as teacher, lecturer, and researcher (lower career stages), a written evaluation of the candidate’s suitability is submitted to the Institute Council by the candidate’s prospective supervisor.

The final selection for a professor position is made by the University Senate, taking into consideration the evaluations from the expert committee, the Academic Committee, and the Institute Council.

The selection process will conclude no later than three months after the application deadline. Following confirmation of the results, the Human Resources Department will inform candidates of the outcome within seven working days.
