Tartu as a University City and Its Role in Research Conferences

Research conferences held in Tartu play a crucial role in the city's development as a university hub. Every year, the Tartu Conference Bureau recognizes outstanding conference organizers.

In 2024, the "17th Baltic Conference on Food Science and Technology FOODBALT 2024," organized by the Department of Bioeconomy Technologies at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, received this recognition.

Special mention was also given to the annual flagship conference, Biosystems Engineeringlink opens in new page, held in Tartu.

Both of these conferences were organized by Professor Timo Kikas, Chair of Bioeconomy Technologies at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, who was honored with the title of Tartu Conference Ambassador. Conference ambassadors are individuals who are part of international networks and bring field-specific events to Tartu, contributing to the development of both the city and the conference destination.

To date, Tartu has 141 recognized conference ambassadors.
