Tartu as a University City and Its Role in Research Conferences

Research conferences held in Tartu play a crucial role in the city's development as a university hub. Every year, the Tartu Conference Bureau recognizes outstanding conference organizers.

In 2025, Professor Evelin Loit-Harro of the Estonian University of Life Sciences was awarded the title of Tartu Conference Ambassador in recognition of her significant contribution to bringing international scientific events to Tartu.

Among the recognised conferences was the 3rd MOVE Symposium (chief organiser Alireza Fazeli), organised by the Estonian University of Life Sciences. The symposium focused on the role of extracellular vesicles in disease mechanisms and therapy and brought leading researchers in the field from various countries to Tartu.

Special recognition among Tartu’s annual flagship conferences was also given to the International Conference Biosystems Engineering 2025link opens in new page (chief organiser Timo Kikas), organised by the Estonian University of Life Sciences. This acknowledgement confirms the university’s strong position in the field of bioeconomy technologies and engineering.
