Visiting and exchange students in Estonia

A guest student is a student enrolled in an Estonian higher education institution who, with the consent of their home university, studies temporarily (for one semester or an academic year) at another Estonian higher education institution.

The studies of guest students are regulated by the Estonian University of Life Sciences’ Study Regulations.

Would you like to study at another Estonian university as a student of the Estonian University of Life Sciences?

As a student of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, you have the opportunity to study as a guest student free of charge at the following Estonian universities:

  • University of Tartu
  • Tallinn University
  • Tallinn University of Technology
  • Estonian Academy of Arts
  • Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre
  • Pallas University of Applied Sciences

Courses completed as a guest student can be counted toward your curriculum at the Estonian University of Life Sciences if they align with your study program. Additionally, they may be recognized as elective courses. Studying at another university as a guest student is included in the standard duration of your curriculum and does not entitle you to an extension of your study period.

Steps to Enroll as a Guest Student at Another University

If you wish to study as a guest student at another Estonian university, you must submit a formal application (see the link at the end of this text) to the Director of Studies of your institute. Be sure to include the course(s) you intend to take at the host university.

Once your application has been approved by the Director of Studies, send the signed application to the host university for their confirmation.

After receiving approval from the host university, submit the application to your institute’s academic affairs specialist. Based on this, you will be officially enrolled as a guest student at the host university by order of the Director of Studies.

Courses completed as a guest student can be counted toward your curriculum. To do so, you must provide your institute’s academic affairs specialist with an official transcript of records issued by the host university. The transfer of credits will be processed in accordance with the university’s regulations on the recognition of prior learning and work experience (VÕTA).

Important! While studying as a guest student at another university, you must comply with the academic regulations of the host university and meet the requirements applicable to its students. Before applying, make sure to check the deadlines for submitting a guest student application and registering for courses at the host institution, as well as any other relevant requirements.
