Accessibility statement

The website of the Estonian University of Life Sciences has been designed and built to comply with the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility guidelines. We apply technical solutions and content creation principles that help ensure our website is accessible to users with visual, auditory, speech, language, physical, cognitive, learning, and neurological disabilities. In addition, accessibility can be improved by adjusting settings in your web browser or operating system.

Keyboard Navigation

You can navigate the website using only a keyboard. Use the Tab key to move the focus from one element to the next. The currently active element is highlighted with a color change and a border around it. To activate a focused link, press the Enter key.


Content Zooming

Web Browsers

To zoom in on the content, we recommend using your browser’s built-in functionality. In all popular browsers, you can zoom in and out by holding down the Ctrl key (or Cmd key on macOS) while pressing the + or - keys. You can also hold down the Ctrl key while using your mouse’s scroll wheel. To return to the default zoom level, press Ctrl + 0.

 

Operating System Tools

Most major operating systems offer settings for increasing the size of content on the screen.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11, you can zoom in by clicking the Windows logo key and pressing the + key. To zoom in further, press the + key multiple times. To zoom out, press the Windows logo key and the - key.
Note: This feature must be enabled in your system settings.

To enable or adjust the Magnifier:

  1. Open the Settings menu (click the Windows logo and select Settings).
  2. Choose Accessibility, then select Magnifier from the left menu.
  3. Here you can turn the Magnifier on or adjust settings such as zoom level and zoom speed.

On Apple computers, the zoom feature can be accessed by navigating to:
Apple menu > System Preferences > Accessibility (or Universal Access) > Zoom.

Browser Extensions
Most modern browsers — including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge — have built-in zoom functionality. Additional browser extensions are also available if needed.
For example:

  • Zoom Page for Firefox allows you to zoom the entire page or just the text.
  • AutoZoom for Chrome offers customizable zoom controls.

Screen Reader Support

Our website is designed to be compatible with screen readers to support users who are blind or visually impaired. A screen reader is a program that interprets and presents the content on a screen in alternative formats, such as sound or speech. Images and visual media on our website are provided with appropriate alternative text descriptions. The structure and sequence of content on the website follow a logical order to support smooth screen reader navigation. Interactive elements are fully accessible via keyboard and screen reader, in accordance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

Accessibility Supervision in Estonia

In Estonia, the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (TTJA) oversees the accessibility of websites and mobile applications. TTJA is responsible for ensuring that public sector websites and apps comply with accessibility requirements as defined by the European Union directive and national legislation. The agency monitors, analyzes, and evaluates compliance and provides guidance to help institutions improve accessibility. It may also initiate supervision procedures and impose sanctions if violations are found.
