Erasmus+ for PhD students

PhD students, like bachelor’s and master’s level students, can participate in Erasmus+ mobility. However, Erasmus+ funding is not intended for participation in conferences, as it requires a confirmed host institution and, in the case of internships, also a supervisor and work plan.

If an opportunity arises to attend a conference during the mobility period, it is allowed, but it cannot be part of the Erasmus+ program.

Just like bachelor’s and master’s level students, PhD students can also go on long-term mobility for either studies or an practical training

For training

  • 5–30 days
  • This is ideal for conducting research and visiting your supervisor.
  • It is formalized as an Erasmus+ traineeship (a host institution, supervisor, detailed work plan, etc., are required). Junior researchers must also complete a travel order, but there is no need to submit a report on travel expenses afterward. The host institution does not have to be one of our partners.

For studies

  • 5-30 days
  • For participating in courses
  • Can only be done in our Erasmus+ partner institutionslink opens in new page

    Scholarships

  • 1–14 days – €79 per day
  • 15–30 days – €56 per day

Students with fewer opportunities are also eligible for an additional support of €100 (for mobility lasting up to 14 days) or €150 (for mobility lasting 15–30 days).

There is a travel grant based on the distance to the host institution. The distance is calculated using the European Commission's distance calculator.

By choosing an eco-friendly travel option, you can receive an additional four travel days, which are covered by the living cost support.

Everyone is also eligible for an additional support from the Republic of Estonia of €118.
