Speaker: Adam Yates – European & Chartered UK Patent Attorney from Dehns (one of the UK’s leading IP firms, with strong expertise in biotechnology and life sciences).

Adam will give a very accessible and practical introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) with a special focus on patents:

• What exactly is a patent (and what isn’t)?
• Why should researchers care about IP in the first place?
• How does the patenting process work?
• Key facts, common myths, timing pitfalls and opportunities
• …and how patents can protect and help commercialise your scientific discoveries

This session is especially relevant if you:

• Work on innovative solutions in agriculture, biotechnology, environmental sciences, food tech, bioeconomy or related fields
• Have  ever thought: “This discovery could be useful outside the lab…”
• Are considering (now or in the future) entrepreneurship, a spin-off company, licensing your technology, or collaborating with the industry.
