In-company training

Practical training is a part of the study process at the Estonian University of Life Sciences that helps students consolidate and apply acquired theoretical knowledge in the working world and gain practical work experience and develop skills.

Practical training is purposeful activity organised for achievement of learning outcomes, targeted at implementing the acquired knowledge and skills in work environment under the instruction of a supervisor.

Practical training activities are:

  • practical study – consolidation of knowledge with hands-on activities under the guidance of a teaching staff member;
  • in-company training – work placement under the supervision of an in-house supervisor in an institution or an enterprise;
  • research practice – under the supervision of a lecturer or an in-house supervisor for research activities.

The load of training is specified in the curriculum, and is calculated in ECTS. One credit point corresponds to an estimated 26 hours. The load of in-company training shall also include seminars, compiling the training report and evaluation of learning outcomes.

Below you will find information about the arrangement of practical training in companies and the required documents.

If your curriculum includes practical study and/or research practice, you can find information about this in your curriculum in the Study Information System.

Practical training process includes:

  1. an information session on company practical training for students, where the university supervisor gives students an overview of the purpose of the upcoming company practical training, tasks to be performed during the practical training, the practical training process, and mandatory practical training documentation;
  2. selection of a suitable company for practical training by the student;
  3. approval of the company selected by the student for practical training by the university supervisor;
  4. signing of the practical training agreement by the university, student, and practical training company;
  5. completion of practical training by the student at the company;
  6. preparation of a practical training report by the student according to the prescribed format, which also includes feedback from the company supervisor to the student and the student's self-analysis;
  7. defense of practical training at the university.

  • Before the start of in-company training, a trilateral agreement is signed between the student, the company of training and the University, which provides the rights and obligations of the parties. On behalf of the University, the agreement shall be signed by the director of academic affairs of the institute.

  • During in-company training the student keeps a training diary and/or a training report, and submits to the in-house supervisor at the end of the training for coordination. The student shall submit the confirmed training diary and/or training report to the University.

NB! You can find the training report in ÕIS at the subject, or ask the internship supervisor!

  • With the signing of the practical training agreement, the company also receives a feedback form in which the company supervisor provides feedback on the completion of the practical training as well as the preparation of the trainee.

  • Before proceeding to practical training, safety instruction is conducted by the university supervisor, at the end of which a safety instruction form is signed.
