Although the new academic year at the Estonian University of Life Sciences officially begins with the opening ceremony on 1 September, new students are already on campus. FOXFEST, an orientation festival that began on 27 August, helps first-year students get to know their fellow students, the university campus and student life.
On the opening day of FOXFEST, first-year students gathered outside the Sports Hall of the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Following the opening remarks, they set off on an orienteering activity. Throughout the day, students explored the campus, learned about the various student organisations, and spent time getting to know their new coursemates. The first day concluded with the Urupidu party at the Forestry Building.
FOXFEST continues today with introductions to the university’s institutes and study programme information sessions, where first-year students can learn more about their field of study, institute and important aspects of their studies. In the afternoon, a joint information session will be held at the Sports Hall.
This year’s FOXFEST programme also includes night-time orienteering, giving new students an opportunity to explore Tartu together with their coursemates. The Student Union has selected ten places popular among students, which first-year students can visit at a time that suits them. The aim is not to race against the clock or visit every location, but to spend time together, get to know their new home city and capture some of their first shared memories as students.
FOXFEST helps first-year students settle into university life before classes begin, meet new people and get the information they need about their upcoming studies and student life. This is the fourth year that the student orientation festival has been held.
