Studying Landscape Architecture in Estonia: Zahra’s Experience

13.04.2026

Zahra Dehdar is a Master’s student in Landscape Architecture at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. With a background in Architectural Engineering and several years of professional experience, she chose to continue her studies to explore open space design from a new perspective.

“Landscape architecture allows me to develop my skills in a more creative and meaningful way,” she says.

The programme combines theoretical learning with practical elements such as design projects and internships, giving students a well-rounded understanding of the discipline. Zahra also values the international study environment, where students from different backgrounds share ideas and perspectives. “Each person brings a different way of thinking, and that makes the learning experience richer,” she explains.

Beyond academics, life in Tartu has become an important part of her journey. She highlights the supportive atmosphere, kind people, and close connection to nature.

For Zahra, one of the most memorable impressions came from her very first days in Estonia, when she began to notice the quiet beauty of everyday surroundings. “I remember looking out of my window and seeing a clear sky and hearing birds in the morning.” Moments like these, she says, have shaped how she experiences both the place and her studies, bringing a sense of calm, focus, and connection to nature into her daily life.

She recommends the programme to students who are motivated, creative, and passionate about working with nature.
