As of 1 July 2025, the university established a new structural unit — the Department of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer aimed at supporting the university community in planning and implementing strategies and activities related to knowledge transfer and innovation.
The department promotes collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and societal stakeholders and operates under the responsibility of the Vice Rector for Research.
The department will be led by Katrin Kepp, who views its creation as a significant strategic step toward deepening the university’s role in systematically enhancing societal impact and enterprise cooperation.
“Our goal is to make research and academic knowledge more accessible and applicable beyond the scholarly world. We aim to be a bridge between researchers and practitioners,” emphasizes Kepp. “The Department of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer will be a platform that connects knowledge, people, and ideas to create sustainable and impactful solutions to society’s challenges.”
Starting 1 July, the department also welcomes two knowledge‐transfer project managers: Lili Veesaar, focusing on the circular bioeconomy and Elis Vollmer, focusing on renewable energy.
Their responsibilities include fostering interdisciplinary cooperation and applying academic insights to socially and economically significant fields.
