The exhibition “Exciting Minds: Estonian Research Excellence Showcase – ERC Grants Across the Years” is now on display at Forestry Building of the Estonian University of Life Sciences. It showcases European Research Council (ERC) grant recipients who are either from Estonia or conducting their research in Estonia, along with their research. The exhibition will officially open on 23 September.
Created at the initiative of the Brussels Office of the Estonian Research Council, the exhibition highlights researchers and research ideas that push the boundaries of knowledge and have the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs across different fields of science.
At the opening, Kristin Kraav from the Estonian Research Council will introduce the exhibition. Academician Ülo Niinemets, Professor of Crop Science and Plant Biology at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, will share his experience of applying for an ERC grant. In 2025, Niinemets was awarded a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant by the European Research Council.
The ERC Advanced Grant is one of Europe’s most prestigious and competitive research funding schemes. Niinemets received €2.5 million in funding and is the only researcher in Estonia to have been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant twice. “This grant once again demonstrates that ecological research in Estonia, including at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, is at the very forefront of global science,” Niinemets said after receiving the grant.
The exhibition “Exciting Minds: Estonian Research Excellence Showcase – ERC Grants Across the Years” will officially open at Forestry Building (F. R. Kreutzwaldi 5), on 23 September at 16:00. The event is part of the additional programme of the Estonian University of Life Sciences Researchers’ Night.
