On June 13, 2025, at 12:00, the festive graduation ceremony of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences took place at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, in the hall of Kreutzwaldi 1A. Diplomas were awarded to 84 graduates from the fields of veterinary medicine, animal science, and food technology.
The ceremony gathered graduates, lecturers, family members and guests. Director of Studies Einar Orgmets opened the ceremony by highlighting the value of education and the important role of the graduates in sustainable food production and animal health. The Estonian national anthem was performed by the male choir Gaudeamus.
Rector Professor Ülle Jaakma delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging graduates to apply their knowledge boldly and responsibly. She emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary skills and the growing relevance of the One Health approach in a changing world.
Representing the graduates, Marianne Liisa Ojang shared heartfelt memories from their academic journey and expressed gratitude to the faculty, families and friends. She also acknowledged the indispensable roles of animal scientists and food technologists alongside veterinarians in building a sustainable future.
In 2025, a total of 84 students graduated from the Institute:
- 48 in veterinary medicine (19 in Estonian, 29 in English),
- 7 from Master’s programmes (5 in animal science, 2 in food technology),
- 29 from Bachelor’s programmes (11 in animal science, 18 in food technology).
Three graduates earned their degrees cum laude:
- Marianne Liisa Ojang (veterinary medicine, Estonian programme),
- Reet Rüütel and Eve Rannamäe (animal science, Master’s programme),
Professor Katrin Laikoja also gave a speech, marking the 65th anniversary of food technology education in Estonia and emphasizing the meaningful continuity of the field. Valdeko Paavel, President of the Estonian Veterinary Association, welcomed the new graduates as professional colleagues and shared thoughtful and humorous reflections on responsibility, collaboration and the realities of the profession.
The ceremony concluded with performances by Gaudeamus, including traditional songs “Gaudeamus igitur” and the “Tartu March.” After the ceremony, graduates gathered for photos and received congratulations from family and faculty.
